Tapir Lab. @IEEE Turkey Students and Young Professional Congress

The IEEE Turkey Student Branches and Young Professionals Congress takes place from August 20th – 23rd at IEEE Turkey Student Branches Youtube channel. On the first day of the Congress, IEEE SAC Chair Dr. Elisa Barney Smith, IEEE Turkey Section Chair Prof Dr. H. Fatih Uğurdağ, Vice-Chair Dr. Tunçer Baykaş, Treasurer Simay Akar, Student Activities Coordinator Dr. Murat Tümer and Professional Development and Educational Activities Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Serhan Yarkan have attended the Congress and delivered the opportunities, and expectations of the contemporary vision of IEEE and IEEE Turkey. Also, IEEE Turkey Student Branches Society Chairs of RAS, KÖK, and CS have presented their annual reports, and candidates of the new term have presented their plans.

Özgür Alaca, a Tapir Lab. member, has been accepted into Ph.D. program with full-scholarship in EE Department at Texas A&M University at College Station, TX. Özgür Alaca will be pursuing his Ph.D. studies in the field of wireless communications, deep learning, and statistical signal processing. Tapir Lab. would like to congratulate him and appreciate the effort he put in on the projects carried out at Tapir Lab. during his time in here!

Tapir Lab. in Robotim @National Press

Details of Robotim, a swarm intelligence mission squad consisting of unmanned air and land vehicles, have been shared by Prof. İsmail Demir, President of Presidency of Defence Industries under Presidency of The Republic of Turkey, on his official Twitter account. The sharing has been echoed by several nation-wide press and news agencies on the same day along with videocasts aired on YouTube. Note that Tapir Lab. carries out research and development in the field of telecommunications and pseudo-positioning system design for Robotim.

PI of ISTEC @Tapir Lab.

Assoc. Prof. Muhammed Ali Aydın, the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Internet of Things (IoT) Security Test and Evaluation Center (ISTEC) project, which is funded by Istanbul Development Agency, was at Tapir Lab. and hosted in a TapirCast session.

Upon his recent TV interview aired on TVNet (a national broadcast station) in a TechTalk show hosted by Erdal Nalbant, Assoc. Prof. Muhammed Ali Aydın provided critical pieces of information mainly focusing on cybersecurity, IoT, education, and future visions regarding emerging technologies.

Tapir Lab. gets funded by Presidency of Defence Industries two times in a row!

The signing ceremony of Tapir Lab.’s second project “Autonomous Discovery, Guidance and Navigation with Collaborative Robots (ROBO-TİM)” has been hosted by Presidency of Defence Industry at the 13th of January. ROBO-TİM has been initiated to develop a cognitive swarm ability which is supported by artificial intelligence for the coordinated task execution of UAVs and UGVs. After KAŞİF, ROBO-TİM has become Tapir Lab.’s second project which is funded by the Presidency of Defence Industry. For more details please visit official page of PDI. (in Turkish)

Kaşif, developed by Tapir Lab., has been officially announced by The Minister of Industry and Technology, Mr. Varank in The Parliament Budget Gathering.

During the meetings of the 2020 Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM)’s Planning and Budget Committee, Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank presented the ongoing and completed projects. In this presentation, Multidimensional Radio Communication Signal Analysis Platform (KAŞİF) mentioned in the ongoing projects related to Artifical Intelligence. Kaşif has been developed by Ticaret EE in collaboration with TUBITAK Informatics and Information Security Research Center (BİLGEM). Ticaret EE has completed the key component Kaşif. The component has been tested in real world environments under challenging conditions and operated successfully. KAŞİF will be completed in February 2020.

Tapir Lab. @Presidency of Defense Industries Workshop!

Tapir Lab. attended the workshop organized by The Presidency of Defence Industries in Ankara, Turkey, on November 8th, 2019 along with several important shareholders active in defense industries. Beside attending the workshop, Tapir Lab. shared its results and real field performance output successfully as well for the project that is funded by The Presidency of Defence Industries.

The IEEE 16th Multi-Conference on Signals Systems and Devices was held in Sutluce!

The IEEE 16th Multi-Conference on Signals Systems and Devices ( SSD’19 ) was hosted by Istanbul Commerce University and Tapir Lab. at Sütlüce, Istanbul, Turkey from 21st to 24th of March, 2019. During the conference 4 plenary sessions, 4 keynote lectures and 28 oral sessions was held.

SSD’19 multi-conference is organized to include 4 conferences covering different fundamental and applied aspects:

  1. “Int. Conf. on Systems, Automation & Control” (SAC)
  2. “Int. Conf. on Conference on Power Systems & Smart Energies” (PSE)
  3. “Int. Conf. on Communication, Signal Processing & Information Technology” (CSP)
  4. “Int. Conf. on Sensors, Circuits and Instrumentation Systems” (SCI)

SSD’19 secretariat has received 249 submissions from 28 countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, P.R. China, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, USA. Each paper has been reviewed by at least two reviewers of the program committee which consisted of more than 100 scientists from more than 30 countries. Only 144 papers have been accepted.

SSD’19 was the largest conferece hosted by Istanbul Commerce University and organized by Tapir Lab. Specialists from different countries gathered together to discuss and present novalities in the field of signals, systems and devices. Also, SSD’19 provided the possibility of meeting with engineers and scientist to the students of Istanbul Commerce University.

Tapir Lab. took active part in various ways in SSD’19 including transportation, accommodation, organization handling, logistics, and gala dinner. SSD’19 has been a great success for Tapir Lab. as well!
